発表報告
Today's presentation deals with the Greater East Asian Conference of 1943, and focuses on the Japanese organizers and the Filipino delegate to the Conference, President Jose P. Laurel.
The Allied and anti-Japanese elements in the occupied regions immediately characterized the Conference as a farce, a puppet theater, a show presented to the Japanese at home, to occupied subjects, and the Allied: They also claimed that the participants were nothing more than Japanese puppets. There was also an insightful comment that organizers were already preparing for defeat and staged the Conference to put on record the loser's justification to defend their actions at the coming war trial. The postwar discussions on the Conference basically agreed with either view, adding more nuanced interpretations. However, not many of these discussions deal in any direct way with participants' own motivations.
